Why choose Joyous Acres?

Why Our ADGA Membership Matters To You

As a registered member of the American Dairy Goat Association - ADGA, we uphold standards that directly protect the quality, health, and reliability of the goats and products you bring home. ADGA membership means:

  • Verified lineage — Every registered goat comes with documented ancestry, giving you confidence in genetics, temperament, and performance.

  • Higher breeding standards — We participate in programs that evaluate milk production, structure, and overall health, ensuring stronger, more consistent herds.

  • Transparent records — You receive accurate, traceable information about each animal—something essential for responsible ownership and future breeding.

  • Commitment to excellence — ADGA membership signals that we take our herd management seriously and follow recognized best practices.

  • Show‑quality animals — Only ADGA‑registered goats can compete in sanctioned shows, so you know our animals meet established breed standards.

Why Our Annual Disease Testing Matters To You

We test our herd every year for Johne’s disease and CAE, two of the most significant health concerns in dairy goats. Our commitment to routine testing gives you confidence that the animals and products you bring home come from a herd managed with integrity and care. Annual testing means:

  • Health transparency — You know exactly where our herd stands, with documented results rather than assumptions.

  • Reduced disease risk — Regular testing helps prevent the spread of chronic, untreatable diseases that can affect longevity, productivity, and overall herd well‑being.

  • Stronger, healthier animals — By monitoring our herd yearly, we maintain healthier genetics and provide animals with a better start in life.

  • Responsible herd management — Consistent testing reflects our commitment to ethical, science‑based care—not shortcuts.

  • Peace of mind — Whether you’re purchasing a family milker, a show prospect, or breeding stock, you can trust that your goat comes from a herd actively working to stay disease‑free.

Why Our Dam‑Raising and Bottle‑Feeding Practices Matter To You

We raise our kids with a combination of dam‑raising and bottle‑feeding to give them the healthiest, most confident start possible. This approach supports both physical well‑being and strong human bonding—benefits that directly carry over to you when you bring a goat home. Our method ensures:

  • Healthy early development — Staying with their mother allows kids to receive natural colostrum, learn proper behaviors, and build strong immune systems.

  • Friendly, well‑socialized goats — Bottle‑feeding creates positive human interaction from day one, resulting in goats that are easier to handle, train, and integrate into new homes.

  • Balanced nutrition — We can monitor each kid’s intake closely, ensuring they grow evenly and get exactly what they need.

  • Lower stress transitions — Because bottle‑fed kids are already comfortable with people, they adjust more smoothly when joining your family or herd.

  • Responsible herd management — Combining natural mothering with attentive human care supports both animal welfare and long‑term herd health.

Why Our HSCG Membership Matters To You

As a proud member of the Handcrafted Soap & Cosmetic Guild (HSCG), we commit to higher standards that protect your confidence and your skin. HSCG membership means:

  • Verified professionalism — We follow industry‑recognized best practices for crafting safe, high‑quality products.

  • Safety‑focused standards — Our formulas, processes, and labeling align with strict guidelines designed to keep you informed and protected.

  • Ongoing education — We stay current on regulations, ingredient research, and formulation techniques so you always get products made with up‑to‑date knowledge.

  • Consumer protection — The Guild promotes ethical business practices, giving you peace of mind when choosing our products.

  • Commitment to quality — Membership signals that we take our craft seriously and continually work to improve what we offer.

Our Story

Joyous Acres began long before there was a farm, a herd, or a single bar of soap.  It began as a wish - held quietly during one of the hardest seasons of my life.

For years I lived with chronic pain so severe it shaped every moment of my day.  The future felt uncertain, and most days, hope felt far away.  In those moments, I needed something-anything-to distract my mind from the pain.  Somehow, I found joy in the simplest place: watching goat videos.  Their playful antics, curious personalities, and gentle nature made me laugh when laughter felt impossible.  They brought light into very dark days, and with that light came a small dream - someday, I want goats of my own.

At that time, that dream felt unrealistic.  Joyous Acres existed only in my heart and imagination.  Then in 2019, everything changed.  I went into remission.  With healing came courage, and with courage came action.  I took a leap of faith with my husband and started our heard with just two Nigerian Dwarf Goats.  Nellie and Nibbles.  Those two goats were more than animals - they were a symbol of survival, hope, and new beginnings.

From those humble beginnings, Joyous Acres has grown into a thriving farm with 17 goats, each raised with intention, care, and love.  As my health continued to improve, so did the dream!  I found myself able to expand beyond the herd and begin creating handcrafted, all-natural goat milk soaps and lotions - products born from the same values that carried me through my healing: purity, gentleness, intention, and joy!

Today, Joyous Acres is a living reminder that pain does not get the final word.  That dreams don't disappear just because life gets hard.  That giving up on your dreams is not an option.  And that even in our most broken moments, joy can quietly take root and grow with something beautiful.

This farm exists because I didn't give up - on healing, on joy, or the dream that once felt impossible.  My hope is that when you experience Joyous Acres, you feel more than just a product.  I hope you feel comfort, connection, and the reminder that hope and joy can grow - even from pain.

Together with my husband Jeff Burman we continue to build upon Joyous Acres.  He has been an amazing partner in our wild ride through the years.  He's the best Goat Father the kids could ever ask for and I fall in love with him more every day.
